Natural Wood, Natural Flow
These owners built their home in Sterling, MA where they raised their 3 boys. With the kids now through college, and almost empty nesters, they decided it was time for the next phase; a beautiful, more functional kitchen with a better flow.
High on the list was creating a space for entertaining family and friends. The layout was originally a U-shaped peninsula in the center of the kitchen, blocking the seating area and somewhat “trapping” the cook in the center. They wanted to open up the kitchen as well as add an island with more work space and some seating at one end. A double-trash cabinet and dual tray dividers for cookie sheets, bread boards and trays are at both ends of the island. The large center cabinet was retro-fitted by the homeowner to hold food for their three lovable dogs.
A window was removed mid-room to add a tall pantry cabinet and a “hospitality center” including wine storage. The pretty “Blue Toile” painted finish compliments the same finish on the island. Bench seating was added on the octagon end of the room. The bank of windows bath the eating area with natural light and provide a nice view of the woods behind the house.
Elements such as increased functionality, added storage, pretty glass and the upgrade of natural alder wood Brookhaven cabinets by Wood-Mode will stand the test of time and be enjoyed for many years to come!
