Family Farmhouse Kitchen in Sterling, MA

This beautiful new farmhouse sits among family property, abutting an original farmhouse and barns owned by the parents of the Mrs. A large, blended family of five children, with nearby sisters, brothers, and cousins frequently together, called for a large kitchen. Entertaining is a common activity for this close family.

The customer wanted a white kitchen, accented with a vintage look using “Hickory” wood for grain and character and a nearly black “Silhouette” finish. A large island just under 10 feet centers the room, a landing space for morning pancakes cooked on the efficient Wolf 48” range. A GE microwave drawer offers easy access to the kids for microwave popcorn and reheating. The island’s open bookcase end provides easy reach storage.

The customers wish list included the “Franke” Whitehouse farm sink, which sits well placed on the long bank of windows. A double trash cabinet is left of the sink, and stacked 48” wall cabinets go straight up to the ceiling, offering great storage space. The icing on the cake is the “Hospitality Center” with glass mullions above, allowing for easy access to coffee mugs, drinks on the run, and the beverage fridge keeps all guests from being thirsty.

This is a highly used space, the heart of the family home summed up by the sign on the bench: “FAMILY – like branches on a tree, we all grow in different directions, but our roots keep us all together.” In this home, “it’s all about love & family” and “all about the kitchen!”, their great gathering place!
